Bayern Munich center back Jerome Boateng is one of the most sought-after defenders this summer, and there is a high chance he could leave Germany. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are two most likely suitors, with the 29-year-old himself not being too opposed to the move. But, if you ask his teammates, Boateng should stay with Bayern.
“We’d all be sad,” – said left-back David Alaba when asked about Boateng’s potential transfer. “He’s a world-class player, one of the best in his position.“
Captain Manuel Neuer added that they would all “miss him,” while winger Franck Ribery hopes Boateng will stay as well.
“I’ve been playing with Jerome for many years now,” – said Ribery. “I hope he’ll stay with us because he’s an important player. To me, he’s one of the best central defenders in the world.“
According to multiple sources, Manchester United, who badly needs a center back, stepped up in their pursuit for Jerome Boateng but are hoping to lower Bayern’s $65 million asking price. PSG, on the other hand, is also interested, but they are still to make an official bid.
Jérôme Boateng made his professional soccer debut with Hertha BSC in 2007, before securing a transfer to Hamburger SV that same year. With some exceptional performances in Bundesliga, he caught the attention of Premier League side Manchester City. In 2010, City paid around $13 million to bring him to England, but Boateng never managed to find his footing in England.
He missed Germany, while also not being comfortable with playing exclusively on the right back, a role he was given in City. Just a year later, he managed to push through a transfer to Bayern Munich. Since then, Boateng made 258 appearances for Bayern in all competitions and had won 13 trophies.
