Stanley Cup-winning head coach Barry Trotz isn’t looking for a new job after being fired by the New York Islanders back in May. During a chat with NHL’s official website, Trotz said that he is taking a break from coaching in the 2022-23 season.

“I’ve got some things personally that I’ve got to take care of, family-wise that I’ve got to take care of,” Trotz said.

Being arguably the most accomplished head coach available, Trotz has been approached by several teams after departing the Islanders. However, the 59-year-old felt that it would be too soon for him to get back to coaching.

“It doesn’t mean I’m not going to coach. Just not going to coach right now, ” he added. “I’ve been doing this for 25 straight years, and I’ve put a lot of stuff on the back burner, and I think it’s time.”

Barry Trotz was fired by the Islanders after finishing 2021-22 with a 37-35-10 record and missing the playoffs. He took the New York team to three postseason appearances prior to that, including a Stanley Cup Semifinals trip.

Trotz previously coached the Nashville Predators and the Washington Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup with the latter. He has coached 1,812 NHL games in his career, which is second-most in league history. His 914 wins place him third on the all-time win list.
