Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez brought significant attention to himself in recent weeks after a stellar performance at this year’s Copa America with Argentina national team. Several high-profile European clubs took an interest in Martinez, with La Liga giants’ Barcelona reportedly thinking about triggering his $126 million release clause.
It seems like this news are not just pure speculation, as Martinez’s agent Alberto Yaque decided to confirm Barcelona’s interest in his client in a recent interview.
“Talk of Barcelona’s interest is true,” – said Yaque. “No-one’s called us, but we know that they’ve been looking at him strongly. It’s true that Barcelona like him.”
While Inter would be reluctant to sell Martinez, considering they just brought him from Racing Club last year, their hands would be tied if Barca is willing to pay the release clause. However, Spanish club isn’t expected to make a move until they sort out the Antoine Griezmann and Matthijs de Ligt transfers. They are also considering a move for PSG’s Neymar, so Martinez might be a backup option for them if they miss out on the Brazilian.
Since joining Inter in the summer of 2018, Lautaro Martinez played a total of 30 goals in all competitions with the club, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. Martinez also made 11 appearances for Argentina national team, scoring on six occasions.
