FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi is expected to sit out the remainder of the season after he suffered an ACL injury, the club confirmed on Monday. The 19-year-old midfielder tore his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Spain during their 3-1 win over Georgia on Sunday during the international break.

Tests carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus,” Barca explained in a publicized statement. He is expected to undergo surgery in the next few days, at which point the club will release another update.

Gavi left the field around halfway through the first half of Spain’s win over Georgia when he landed awkwardly while controlling the ball after colliding with Georgia’s Luka Lochoshvili.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
