FC Barcelona suspect that midfielder Marc Bernal may have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the Catalan giants’ 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. The 17-year-old was forced off the field late in the second half of the match, a stain on what was otherwise a successful evening for Barcelona, with the team making it three wins from three in the league.
“It’s a sad victory because Marc Bernal is injured and it looks not so good,” Barca manager Hansi Flick stated after the game. “We have to wait and see how heavy it is. We win, it’s OK, but when you see the dressing room nobody is happy. It’s not good. He made a fantastic match – 17-years-old, such a performance. It hurts.”
Having made his Barcelona debut on the opening day of the season, Bernal has quickly become a top performer for the club. He started all three of his La Liga matches for the club this season. Although the severity of Bernal’s injury needs to be assessed further, the club is of the opinion that he may need to remain on the sidelines for the majority of the season as he recovers.
