Barcelona’s forward Lamine Yamal is considered one of the best young players in the world. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Catalan club rejected a €250 million ($270 million) offer for the Spanish teenager during the summer transfer window.

The news about the offer, which would make Yamal the most expensive player in soccer history, was confirmed by Barca’s president, Joan Laporta, during a recent interview with the club’s television channel, Barca One.

Laporta made the revelation while speaking about the perception that some of the recent roster moves, including sales of Ousmane Dembele and Marc Guiu, were influenced by the club’s difficult financial situation.

“We know what we are doing in the transfer market. We want those that are the best and who want to be here to stay — and we have shown that,” Laporta said.

“A club came to me to sign Lamine for €250 million, and I said no,” he added.

Laporta didn’t share the name of the club that wanted to sign Yamal, but a number of previous reports indicated that Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain was interested in the player and made an official approach in the past.

Lamine Yamal made his professional debut for Barcelona as a 15-year-old in April 2023. Since then, Yamal established himself as a key player for the La Liga side, making 62 appearances, scoring 12 goals, and adding 14 assists.

Yamal also broke into Spain’s national team, playing in all seven games at the 2024 EURO and helping his country win the trophy with one goal and four assists.
