Barcelona is ready to make a massive clearance in their squad this summer, and the first player to go could be center-back Clement Lenglet. Reportedly, Barca is currently engaged in talks with Tottenham Hotspur and is optimistic about offloading Lenglet to Premier League.

Barca is willing to do a loan deal as the Spurs would be paying a significant portion of Lenglet’s wages. This would result in significant savings for cash-strapped Catalan giants despite the fact that no fee will be involved.

The only issue is Lenglet’s hesitancy to move from La Liga. The 27-year-old had an opportunity to leave Barcelona last season but opted to stay at Camp Nou despite rarely being in the starting 11. However, there are some indications that his stance softened after head coach Xavi Hernandez informed him he isn’t part of his plans for 2022-23.

Lenglet is reportedly set to have a chat with the Spurs’ manager Antonio Conte in the coming days. The France international would like to know how Conte intends to use him before making a final decision.

Clement Lenglet joined Barca from Sevilla in 2018 in a transfer worth €35 million. The club intended to use him as a partner for Gerard Pique in the back four, but Lenglet never completely settled in Catalonia. He played 160 games in the past four seasons and was part of the team that won La Liga in 2018–19.
