Alarm bells went off in the Catalonian capital on Monday after Barcelona star forward Ousmane Dembele was forced to leave practice early after suffering what has been described as a setback in his return from a leg injury.

The French forward has missed the majority of the 2019-20 season for Barcelona due to hamstring issues. The left winger hasn’t played for the reigning La Liga champions since his team’s 2-1 win over Leganes on November 23rd.

Dembele left Monday’s training session after experiencing what the club described as “muscle fatigue.” However, it seems fair to expect that this injury might set the 22-year-old even further back in his return to the pitch.

He was expected to rejoin Barcelona on the pitch this month, but this now seems in doubt.

This is just another one in a long line of frustrations that FC Barcelona has dealt with during Dembele’s tenure with the club. After signing him for nearly $150 million back in August 2017 from Borussia Dortmund, Dembele has at times looked a world-class talent and has at other times looked like an injury-prone flop.

In any case, new Barcelona boss Quique Setien has expressed his confidence in the French international’s ability and is hoping that he will return to the pitch sooner rather than later.
