Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta decided to leave Europe in 2018, signing with Japanese side Vissel Kobe where he has been playing ever since. However, it looks like Iniesta’s stint in Japan has come to an end. According to multiple reports, the 35-year-old Spanish midfielder is looking to leave Kobe and might be tempted to play in Argentina.

Iniesta has been linked with a move to Argentina Superliga side Estudiantes, where his former Barca teammate Javier Mascherano plays. There are more Barcelona links, as Estudiantes is coached by Gabriel Milito, who spent a significant portion of his playing career at Camp Nou.

Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron talked about Iniesta on Wednesday with La Oral Deportiva, saying that the club isn’t negotiating with the player at the moment. Veron, however, did admit that the two sides had talked.

“Today, we can’t say that there are negotiations with Iniesta, said Veron. “[But] yes, there are talks.”

“Trying to sign] Iniesta is something that people will not forget about, regardless of whether it materializes or not,” he added.

Andres Iniesta played 23 games with Vissel Kobe in J1 League in 2019, scoring six goals and providing just as many assists. In total, Iniesta made 39 appearances for Kobe in less than two years, contributing with 10 goals and nine assists.
