She went on to work in the luxury goods group of Starwood Capital in New York and Paris, but this was just a stepping stone for her next big step. LaFleur always had big dreams and she believed she was skilled enough to start a business of her own—and that’s exactly what she did!

Starting a Business

LaFleur started her own company in 2013 after being frustrated by the lack of women’s workwear options. So, she decided to start her own fashion brand and that’s how M.M.LaFleur was born.

Sarah joined forces with Narie Foster and they found the perfect partner in crime in Miyako Nakamura, Zac Posen’s former head designer. She came on board as the brand’s creative director which marked the start of M.M.LaFleur’s rise in the fashion world.

Finding Inspiration

In her youth, Sarah enjoyed watching her mother get dressed for work. Her impeccably tailored Parisian suits and bold red lipstick made her look like the most powerful woman in the world and Sarah wanted to feel the same way.

“I just didn’t feel like that powerful woman in my poorly tailored, ill-fitting clothes. I decided it was time to change. Eradicate ill-fitting suits once and for all and create a line of beautiful yet professional dresses,” she explained on her official website.

Sarah's career was thriving since she started her company and her personal life wasn't slowing down either.

Perfect Match

Sarah LaFleur was a successful businesswoman and she found a partner who perfectly matched her energy. Her husband Chris Schonberger also found success in his own right, as a producer of several shows that you've probably watched on YouTube.

His most popular project yet is the YouTube talk show Hot Ones, hosted by his good friend Sean Evans. In the show, celebrities are interviewed while eating extremely spicy hot wings and it's pretty hilarious!

Busy Couple

Sarah started dating Chris during her senior year of college and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Even though they were in a long-term relationship, they were too busy with their careers to think about starting a family together.

Busy Couple

“We lived together, but I was working some really tough corporate jobs where the only hours you're not at the office are the hours you're sleeping. He was in a pretty similar space. So most of our 20s we were heads down, just doing that,” Sarah told Marie Claire.

Money Troubles

Like most young couples, Chris and Sarah weren’t very financially stable during their '20s. The success they have today was still years ahead of them and taking care of a newborn at that stage didn’t really fit into their plans.

Money Troubles

“Financially, I wasn’t saving any money at the time and constantly felt stretched. The thought of adding another person to the list of people we would have to take care of seemed impossible,” Sarah shared with Marie Claire.
