Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to leave the La Liga powerhouse in June. According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Ancelotti already accepted a new job and will become the head coach of Brazil’s national team.

Ancelotti initially intended to fulfill his contract with Real, which runs until 2026, but the club’s struggling form has caused both sides to agree to part ways. Real has been eliminated in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League, lost the Copa del Rey finals against bitter rivals Barcelona, and is currently trailing the Catalan club by four points in La Liga with five games to play.

Reportedly, Ancelotti will take over Brazil on a one-year deal and lead the country at the 2026 World Cup. He will succeed Dorival Júnior, who was fired in March after a string of disappointing results that included an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Argentina.

Real, on the other hand, is already putting together a shortlist of candidates to replace Ancelotti. At the moment, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is considered the leading candidate. Alonso spent five years with Real as a player, winning La Liga in 2011–12 and UCL trophy in 2013–14.

LAFC’s head coach, Steve Cherundolo, announced that he will step down from his position with the MLS team after the end of the 2025 season.

In a statement released by the club, Cherundolo explained it was a family decision.

“It is an honor to be the head coach of LAFC,” Cherundolo said in a statement. “After much reflection and discussion with my family, we made the decision that at the end of this year we will return to Germany.”

Cherundolo, who had 87 caps for the United States men’s national team, spent his entire professional career with German club Hannover 96. After retirement in 2014, he remained with the club in a coaching role, overseeing its academy teams.

Steve Cherundolo took over as LAFC’s head coach in 2022. He clinched the Supporters’ Shield and won the MLS Cup, the first in the team’s history, in his first season at the helm. LAFC also lifted the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2024 under Cherundolo.

LAFC has struggled at the beginning of the 2025 season, having four wins and four losses in their first eight MLS matches. They are currently sitting at No. 7 in the Eastern Conference and are seven points behind the leading Vancouver Whitecaps. Inter Miami could soon add another soccer star from Europe to its roster, being linked to Manchester City’s star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

According to multiple reports, Miami currently holds De Bruyne’s MLS discovery rights. This gives the club the opportunity to engage in exclusive negotiations with the player and have the best shot at bringing him to the United States.

De Bruyne already made an announcement last week that he will leave City at the end of the 2024-25 season. He is believed to have an interest in playing in MLS, with the chance to team up with Lionel Messi being particularly appealing to him.

However, Inter Miami will likely face tough competition and various challenges to sign De Bruyne. Given the player’s reputation, he is expected to receive interest from European clubs and rich offers from Saudi Arabia. “It’s a hell of a lot of points, and I’m super blessed to be able to put that many points up in the best league in the world with the best players in the world over my career,” James said after the game. “It’s pretty special.”

Besides being the league’s leader in combined points, James also has the most regular season points with 41,871 and most playoff points with 8,162.

Despite playing his 22nd season in the NBA, James isn’t showing signs of slowing down. In 2024-25, he is averaging 24.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists. This included averaging 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in February and being named Western Conference Player of the Month.

Jones told reporters earlier this week that he is willing to waive his “no-movement” clause and would like to get traded to a contender and play “meaningful games.”

“I want to hope to maybe be in a situation where I’m competing for a Stanley Cup, at least playing some meaningful games in May and hopefully June. That’s where I am right now. Discussions with the agent and stuff like that have been going on. Obviously, there’s a lot of moving parts to something like this. But it is what it is, kind of, right now,” Jones said.

Jones, who has 26 points this season, added that he thinks the Blackhawks have been improving and have a bright future, but recognized that the team’s timeline isn’t aligned with his. He also recognized that his exit might take some time and said that he intends to remain professional and help the team as much as he can during the process.

Moving Jones couldn’t prove challenging for the Blackhawks due to his large contract. He signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension with the franchise in 2021 and still has five years remaining after the 2024-25 season.

The Boston Red Sox finally made the splash free agent signing that their fans expected since the start of the offseason. According to multiple reports, the Red Sox agreed to a deal with All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman.

Bregman, who was considered the best remaining player on the free agent market, will reportedly ink a three-year, $120 million deal. The agreement between the two sides contains opt-outs after each of the first two years and comes with deferred money.

Bregman played in 145 games with the Houston Astros last season, batting .260 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. He received a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer from Houston, where he spent his entire MLB career, at the end of the campaign, but rejected in favor of exploring free agency.

While Bregman remained unsigned for longer than expected, it wasn’t for lack of offers as several teams pursued him heavily. The Astros tried to retain him with a six-year, $156 million offer while the Detroit Tigers offered a six-year, $171 million.

Eventually, the Red Sox swooped in with a shorter deal but one that had a significantly bigger average yearly salary. Boston’s head coach Alex Cora reportedly insisted on singing Bregman, with the two previously working together when Cora served as Astros’ bench coach in 2017.

Bregman played most of his career at third base, but will likely transition to second base with the Red Sox. The move will allow the franchise’s star third baseman Rafael Devers to stay at his preferred position.

The Los Angeles Lakers have backed out of the previously agreed trade with the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the trade was nixed due to Williams failing his physical.

The Lakers initially agreed to acquire Williams on the trade deadline, sending promising rookie Dalton Knecht, veteran Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2031 first-round pick to Charlotte. However, the physical “showed multiple issues” according to Charania and the LA team didn’t feel comfortable going through with the trade.

The Hornets acknowledged the failed trade in a statement, saying that they are “thrilled” to have him return to the team.

“After the other team aggressively pursued Mark, we made the difficult decision to move him,” the statement said. “We have always held great respect for Mark’s talent, work ethic, and character. We are thrilled to see him rejoin our roster as a dynamic presence at the starting center position. His return strengthens our team, and we look forward to the impact he will make on and off the court.”

The Lakers traded for Williams following a blockbuster deal that saw them land superstar Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. They envisioned Williams as a lob threat that perfectly complements Doncic’s game and a long-term solution at the center position.

Now, the Lakers are left with a thin frontcourt that will see 2019’s first-round pick Jaxson Hayes take the starting job. They also have veteran Christian Wood on their roster, but he is currently recovering from a knee surgery and it is unclear when he’ll be back.

Mark Williams, the 15th overall pick in 2022 out of Duke, has been in the midst of his best season as a pro. In 23 games in 2024-25, he has been averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are heading to Super Bowl LIX. The Chiefs edged out the Buffalo Bills in a closely contested 32-29 win to become AFC Champions while the Eagles dominated the Washington Commanders in a 55-23 NFC Championship Game victory.

The Eagles leaned into their rushing game against the Commanders and it proved to be the right recipe against the Commanders’ defense. The Commanders were also hurt by turnovers, losing the ball on four occasions.

MVP candidate Saquon Barkley rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns while Philly had 229 rushing yards as a team compared to the Commanders’ 99 yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 246 yards and a touchdown, while also adding three TDs on the ground.

The Eagles will now play in their fifth Super Bowl in franchise history and look to add another trophy alongside the Super Bowl LII.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, had to work really hard to ensure their bid for three-peat remains alive. They have the opportunity to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls while also chasing their fifth overall trophy.

The Bills stuck close throughout the entire game and had an opportunity to execute a game-winning drive after Kansas City scored a field goal for 29-32 with 3:33 left on the clock. However, Buffalo’s quarterback Josh Allen didn’t manage to find an answer for the opposing defense and turned the ball over on downs.

Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes played another well-rounded game, throwing for 245 yards and a touchdown while also adding 43 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

The Los Angeles Lakers have backed out of the previously agreed trade with the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the trade was nixed due to Williams failing his physical.

The Lakers initially agreed to acquire Williams on the trade deadline, sending promising rookie Dalton Knecht, veteran Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2031 first-round pick to Charlotte. However, the physical “showed multiple issues” according to Charania and the LA team didn’t feel comfortable going through with the trade.

The Hornets acknowledged the failed trade in a statement, saying that they are “thrilled” to have him return to the team.

“After the other team aggressively pursued Mark, we made the difficult decision to move him,” the statement said. “We have always held great respect for Mark’s talent, work ethic, and character. We are thrilled to see him rejoin our roster as a dynamic presence at the starting center position. His return strengthens our team, and we look forward to the impact he will make on and off the court.”

The Lakers traded for Williams following a blockbuster deal that saw them land superstar Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. They envisioned Williams as a lob threat that perfectly complements Doncic’s game and a long-term solution at the center position.

Now, the Lakers are left with a thin frontcourt that will see 2019’s first-round pick Jaxson Hayes take the starting job. They also have veteran Christian Wood on their roster, but he is currently recovering from a knee surgery and it is unclear when he’ll be back.

Mark Williams, the 15th overall pick in 2022 out of Duke, has been in the midst of his best season as a pro. In 23 games in 2024-25, he has been averaging 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are heading to Super Bowl LIX. The Chiefs edged out the Buffalo Bills in a closely contested 32-29 win to become AFC Champions while the Eagles dominated the Washington Commanders in a 55-23 NFC Championship Game victory.

This will be the second time in three years that the Chiefs and Eagles meet in the Super Bowl. The two teams also faced in Super Bowl LVII, where the Chiefs scored a comeback 38-35 win.

The Eagles leaned into their rushing game against the Commanders and it proved to be the right recipe against the Commanders’ defense. The Commanders were also hurt by turnovers, losing the ball on four occasions.

MVP candidate Saquon Barkley rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns while Philly had 229 rushing yards as a team compared to the Commanders’ 99 yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 246 yards and a touchdown, while also adding three TDs on the ground.

The Eagles will now play in their fifth Super Bowl in franchise history and look to add another trophy alongside the Super Bowl LII.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, had to work really hard to ensure their bid for three-peat remains alive. They have the opportunity to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls while also chasing their fifth overall trophy.

The Bills stuck close throughout the entire game and had an opportunity to execute a game-winning drive after Kansas City scored a field goal for 29-32 with 3:33 left on the clock. However, Buffalo’s quarterback Josh Allen didn’t manage to find an answer for the opposing defense and turned the ball over on downs.

Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes played another well-rounded game, throwing for 245 yards and a touchdown while also adding 43 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

 “It’s just so hard to get to the Super Bowl and I don’t take it for granted, and to do it again at Arrowhead Stadium was special,” Mahomes said after the game. “You get that trophy on that stage and you look around here and there’s not an empty seat — it’s special.”
