After hiring Antonio Pierce as their new head coach, the Las Vegas Raiders reportedly filled their general manager vacancy. According to multiple reports, the Raiders are looking to hire former Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco to take over the team’s front office.

Telesco served 11 seasons as the general manager of the Chargers, who play in the AFC West just like the Chargers, before being fired at the end of the 2023 regular season alongside head coach Brandon Staley.

The Raiders had a GM vacancy since making an organizational sweep in October by moving on from head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. Owner Mark Davis initially targeted up-and-coming candidates around the league in recent weeks, but his opinion changed after hiring Pierce, who succeeded McDaniels on an interim basis, as the full-time head coach.

Davis reportedly didn’t want to pair up a first-year head coach with a first-year general manager. He put more focus on experienced candidates, and Telesco, who worked in the NFL for more than three decades, stood out as a perfect pairing with Pierce.

Tom Telesco started out as an intern with the Buffalo Bills in 1991 before moving on to serve in different roles, including area scout, with the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts. Telesco was elevated to director of player personnel with the Colts in 2006 and held the job until 2012, when he was promoted to Vice president of football operations.

In 2013, Telesco was hired to serve as the general manager of the Chargers. During his time in the front office, the Chargers went 79-83 in the regular season and were 2-3 in three playoff appearances.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing back quarterback Mason Rudolph for the 2023 NFL season. According to reports, Rudolph re-signed with the franchise on a one-year deal and will get a chance to compete for the backup role behind starter Kenny Pickett.

Rudolph was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he played 17 games (10 starts) with the franchise while throwing for 2,366 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Rudolph spent 2022 as the third quarterback on the Steelers’ depth chart and didn’t take a single snap in the regular season. This didn’t sit well with the 27-year-old, and he decided it was time to move on when his contract with the franchise expired.

However, the market didn’t develop the way Rudolph expected, and he found himself unsigned deep into the offseason. While he reportedly had other offers, returning to Pittsburgh emerged as the best of them, and the Steelers were happy to have him back.

The Steelers like to have three quarterbacks on their roster, so having Rudolph back makes a lot of sense. They are also reportedly willing to give Oklahoma State product a fair chance in training camp to take the backup spot from Mitch Trubisky.

Arsenal is currently bottom of the Premier League table after losing their opening three games against Brentford, Chelsea, and Manchester City. Manager Mikel Arteta admits that the team has had a rocky start to the season and said they need to “reset” and “improve” their game.

The disappointing start to the season comes off the back of a summer of big spending for the club. Arsenal was the Premier League’s biggest spender in the summer transfer window. But the money has not translated into points.

“We have tried to explain the project and the decisions that we have made over the last few months in the transfer window. The amount of changes that we’ve had in two or three years is almost 30 players.”

“We have all participated, trying to create and build this project obviously led by the owners. It is a project that we believe in, that we have to assemble.”

He continued to stand by the moves they made in the offseason, claiming that they did what they felt was best for the club at the time. He acknowledged that in order for the team to thrive, they need to find out a way to make it work with all of their new pieces.

“And we have to embrace that because there is no other way in football, you’re going to have to have results and we are ready to do that,” he added.

Talks are underway about whether to play a World Cup soccer tournament every two years instead of four. Arsene Wenger, Arsenal’s former long-term manager turned FIFA’s chief of global football development, is the primary architect of the plan.

Former footballers John Terry and Michael Owen are among the officials invited to discuss the plan with Wenger in Qatar.

FIFA members are set to vote on the plans by the end of the year. If the proposal is accepted, the World Cup finals will be held every two years instead of four from 2028.

England manager Gareth Southgate has been in talks with Wenger about the new plans and said, “I actually met with Arsene a couple of weeks ago, he was meeting a few different coaches so I have a pretty good idea of the proposals.”

“I think the whole calendar needs reviewing. My feedback would be—I don’t know—that our generation is going to find a World Cup every two years a strange concept. I agree generally with the concept of better quality matches. Fewer matches, better quality across the board, but there’s lots of other things that need consideration and we can’t just add more in at the moment.”
