Australia national football team coach Bert Van Marwijk is pleased after his side managed to hold out Colombia to a 0-0 draw in a friendly international.

Though the Socceroos’s were lucky to have claimed a draw against the 2014 world cup quarter-finalists at Craven Cottage, this is a result that they can take inspiration from especially as Colombia defeated France 3-2 last week.

France is one of the pre-tournament favorites for the 2018 world cup and the result last week highlighted why many feel that the Colombians are now one of the best teams in the world.

Australian goalkeeper Danny Vukovic enjoyed a good debut as he kept out a spot-kick from Miguel Borja to ensure that the match ended in a stalemate.

Speaking after the game, Van Marwijk said: “Colombia is one of the best teams in the world, we saw that last week. When you win in France you are a very good team. Today we had a very good plan and we could see the way we want to play. We played very well in the first half. In the second half, it was more difficult because of the qualities of Colombia but we showed good character to get the 0-0.
