Austin FC has locked Argentinean attacking midfielder Sebastián Driussi to a new long-term contract. Driussi, who established himself as the team’s biggest star in the previous two seasons, inked an extension that runs through 2025. The agreement also includes an option for 2026.

Austin FC signed Driussi as a Designated Player in the summer of 2021. After scoring five goals in his debut campaign in MLS, Driussi took the league by storm last season and contributed with 22 goals and seven assists. The 27-year-old player also added three goals in the playoffs, leading Austin to the semi-finals of the MLS Cup.

“Sebastián is one of the most gifted and talented players in Major League Soccer,” Austin head coach Josh Wolff shared in a statement after the news was made official. “He’s a top-quality player and leader in our locker room. This contract extension is well-deserved, and we’re thrilled that he’s decided to make Austin his home for the foreseeable future.”

Prior to his arrival to MLS, Sebastián Driussi played for his hometown club River Plate and the Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg. Driussi won Copa Libertadores with River in 2015 and was part of the Zenit teams that won three consecutive national titles. He also represented Argentina’s national team at youth levels but is still waiting for a call-up to the senior squad.
