Austin FC is still a year and a half away from playing their first game in MLS, but the team owner Anthony Precourt is already having big plans for this franchise. Speaking on Austin’s Soccer Pod on Wednesday, Precourt said that Mexico’s star forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is a type of player he would want on his team.

“I’d be as excited as anyone,” – said Precourt. “That’s the type of player we’ll target, and we’ll give our best pitch. I think he’s got a year left on his contract at West Ham and I think there’s other clubs that are rumored to be looking at him in MLS. We’ll certainly be active in trying to recruit him in the years to come.”

Austin FC will play their inaugural season in MLS in 2021, and it looks like they might do so in front of full stands. The team recently made the season ticket deposits available for public and set the MLS record with more than 30,000 pledges.

Hernandez received advances from MLS in the past as well but insisted on staying in Europe for the time being. He played the previous two years in English Premier League, where he appeared in 53 games for West Ham and managed to score 15 goals.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
