Austin FC came to mutual contract termination with midfielder Cecilio Dominguez. The move, made on Saturday, opens up a designated player spot for the MLS side.

Dominguez hasn’t played since March due to off-the-field issues. He scored twice in four appearances this year.

Dominguez arrived at Austin FC ahead of the team’s inaugural season in 2021. The Paraguay international was arguably their best player last year, scoring seven goals and adding four assists in 34 appearances. The 27-year-old player previously played for several clubs in Latin America, including América of Liga MX and Independiente of Argentine Primera División.

With Dominguez out of the building, Austin FC is expected to move towards finalizing a deal for Sao Paolo’s winger Emiliano Rigoni. The MLS club has agreed on a transfer fee with the Brazilian side and is set to pay around $4 million for Rigoni’s services.

Austin FC is currently in the midst of a successful campaign that sees them in second place in the Western Conference. They are currently just one point behind leaders LAFC with a 12-5-4 record. Austin is currently on a seven-match undefeated streak that includes five wins.
