The UEFA Champions League spots for next season in La Liga have been settled. Atletico Madrid and Sevilla secured themselves a finish in the top four and will represent Spain in the European competition alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Champions League seemed lost for Atletico earlier in the season, but they managed to get back in with a string of great performances in the second part of 2019/20. They haven’t lost since February, and are now comfortably third on the standings with 66 points after getting 1-0 win against Real Betis over the weekend.

Sevilla is also in great form, getting four wins in a row and closing out Mallorca with two goals on Sunday. They have 66 points as well, but the weaker goal difference places them on the fourth.

Atletico and Sevilla’s closest rival is Villareal on fifth, but the 1-2 defeat against Real Sociedad on Monday meant that they have no chances of breaking into UCL spot. They will, however, play in Europa League in 2020/21.

The title race also seems to be over, as Real Madrid now have four points more than Barcelona with two games left to play in the regular season.

On the other end of the table, Espanyol already lost all chances to remain in La Liga and will be relegated. Mallorca and Leganes are expecting the same faith as they are four points behind the spot that guarantees top-flight soccer next season.
