Atlanta United is determined to make another MLS Cup run in 2019 and has already started reinforcing their roster. The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed Guinea international defender Florentin Pogba.

Pogba, who is the older brother of Manchester United’s star midfielder Paul Pogba, joins Atlanta after his contract with Turkish side Gençlerbirliği expired in 2018. The 28-year-old was recently on trial with Spain Segunda Division team Elche, but the two sides failed to agree to a deal.

“We’re pleased to officially welcome Florentin to our club,” – said Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra in a statement. “He’s a physical center-back who also has the ability to play with his feet. He also brings an immense amount of experience after representing his club and country in various international tournaments and we expect him to compete for playing time on our back line.”

Florentin Pogba started his professional career in France, getting the first-team opportunity with Sedan in 2010. After two years with the team, he joined AS Saint-Étienne. During his time with Saint-Étienne, Pogba struggled with inconsistency and injuries although he had several bright moments. In January 2018, he was transferred to Gençlerbirliği.

Despite playing for France at the youth level, Pogba decided to represent Guinea internationally and has played 21 matches for the country’s national team since 2010.
