The Houston Astros reportedly agreed to a deal with veteran outfielder Jason Heyward. According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, the move will become official after Heyward passes his physical.

Heyward started the 2024 MLB season with the Los Angeles Dodgers after agreeing to a one-year, $9 million deal with the team in the offseason. He played in 64 games and batted .208 with six home runs and 28 RBIs before the Dodgers decided to designate him for assignment last week.

The Astros currently sit at a 70-61 record and in first place in the AL West after a shaky start of the season. However, they have Seattle Mariners breathing down their neck at 3.5 games behind while their injury situation has worsened lately.

Houston’s All-Star left fielder Kyle Tucker is still on injured reserve after going down in June with a shin injury, while utility player Mauricio Dubon, who was one of his replacements, is also dealing with sidelined.

Despite battling injuries of his own and seeing his productivity slip, Heyward should provide the Astros with more depth as they try to weather Tucker’s absence. Additionally, he could still have another career renaissance like last season when he had 15 homers and batted .269.

Jason Heyward made his debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2010 and was named an All-Star as a rookie. He spent five years in Atlanta before embarking on stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs, winning the World Series with the latter.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
