Arsenal surprised pretty much everyone on Saturday night, racing past Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to a 2-0 win in the FA Cup semi-finals, guaranteeing them a spot to play for a trophy in 2020.
The Gunners won on the back of two Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goals at Wembley Stadium against a Man City side that was favored to advance to attempt to defend its title in the English knockout tournament.
Aubameyang found the net for the first time in the 19th minute of the match after a Nicolas Pepe cross found him at the far post and the Gabonese striker beat Ederson to the opposite post.
He then scored again at 71′ as Manchester City pushed and pushed for an equalizer in the second half. Aubameyang got behind a tired group of City defenders and slipped the ball between Ederson’s legs to give his team the definitive score.
Arsenal, which has seen a deep league disappointment this season as they stand in 10th place in the Premier League standings, will have a chance to play in the 2020-21 Europa League if they are able to claim their first trophy since they won the 2017 FA Cup.
Arsenal will face Chelse in the competition’s final on Saturday, September 1st at Wembley.
