Premier League giants Arsenal announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement on a new deal with their manager Mikel Arteta.
According to the club, Arteta inked a new three-year extension. His current contract was set to expire after the 2023-24 season.
Reportedly, Arteta is set to receive a significant salary bump as part of his new deal. He was reportedly earning £9 million ($11.7 million) annually before the extension.
Arteta, who retired as an Arsenal player, took over the Gunners midway through the 2019-20 season following the departure of Unai Emery. Since then, the Spaniard re-established the club as one of the top Premier League sides and arguably the biggest threat to Manchester City’s dominance.
In his first season in charge, Arteta led the club to an FA Cup win while also winning the FA Community Shield in 2020 and 2023. Additionally, Arsenal finished second in the Premier League standings in each of the previous two seasons. This included an 89-point campaign in 2023-24 that saw Arteta’s side miss out on a title by just two points.
“I feel extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next. I’m proud to be where I am and have the relationships that I have with everyone at the club,” Arteta said in a statement provided by the club. “I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.”
