Manchester United ended Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season, defeating the Gunners 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday. Arsenal won all of their first five matches of the new season.
Despite dominating possession early on, Man Utd was caught off guard by a fast-paced Arsenal counter-attack, with Gabriel Martinelli slotting home a well-time pass by Saka in the 12th minute. Unfortunately for the Gunners, the goal was disallowed after VAR picked up a foul by Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen earlier on in the build-up.
The momentum appeared to swing in Arsenal’s favor from that moment until, in the 35th minute, Marcus Rashford’s through ball found Antony, who scored for Man Utd on his debut for the club.
After pressuring the Red Devils’ defense for an extended period, Arsenal finally got the breakthrough they craved courtesy of a Bukayo Saka strike in the 60th minute. The away team’s celebrations were short-lived, however, as Rashford fired home a Bruno Fernandes pass six minutes later in what was another speedy counterattack.
The Red Devils’ defense remained solid for the remainder of the clash, with Rashford putting the nail in Arsenal’s coffin with a 75th-minute goal courtesy of yet another burst of counterattacking football that caught the Arsenal defense off guard.
Manchester United next faces Crystal Palace away, while Arsenal plays host to Everton.
