The Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout says he is open to a position change if that would help him play more games.
Trout has played in center field almost exclusively since making his MLB debut in 2011. But after missing 266 games since the 2021 season due to various injuries, the three-time AL MVP appears to be willing to move towards a less demanding position like corner outfield or designated hitter.
“Ultimately, my goal is to be in that batter’s box, in the field, every single day,” said Trout. “Whether that’s moving to a corner or DHing more, that’s something that I’ll leave it up to the front office to come up with a plan. Where I’m at and what’s happened the last few years, I’m definitely going to try to explore every option that can keep me out there.”
Trout managed to play only 29 games in 2024, batting .220 with 10 home runs and 14 RBIs before suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee in late April. After surgery and a lengthy recovery process, Trout attempted to return to the field in July but ended up tearing his meniscus again while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake Bees. He had another surgery and was shut down for the season.
According to Trout, he has since returned to some baseball activities and is confident he will return to his regular training regime during the offseason and be ready for the next training camp.
