Real Madrid got more than they bargained for during their trip to Villareal’s Estadio de la Ceramica. While the home side has endured a difficult start to the new La Liga season, following a 4-4 draw with Granada and a 2-1 loss to Levante, they pulled off a heroic 2-2 against significant favorites Real Madrid.

Villareal looked alert in the early stages of the match and soon grabbed a 12th minute lead by way of a Gerard Moreno close-range strike. As expected, the Galacticos did not take this disappointing start to the match lying down and got in a few shots of their own courtesy of Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Eventually, luck returned to Real Madrid as Gareth Bale put away an equalizer for Los Blancos just before the half-time whistle.

Real Madrid certainly seemed the more likely to find the back of the net from the commencement of the second half, however, it would be the Yellow Submarines who would yet again grab the lead, this time in the 74th minute through a Moises Gomez tap-in.

Real Madrid pulled level yet again in the 86th minute as Gareth Bale scored his second of the evening. While the Welshman enjoyed a standout performance, his night ended poorly as a rough tackle saw him sent off in the dying moments of the game.
