Despite making his way through the U.S. youth ranks and making two appearances with USMNT, it seems like Ajax’s full-back Sergino Dest is still undecided on his international future.

Dest, who is eligible to represent both U.S. and Netherlands, recently told Fox Sports that he needs more time before making the final decision.

“I haven’t decided yet on either one. I need more time,” –said Dest. “It’s a decision I have to make for my entire life, so I want to handle it with care. I need to think carefully, that’s why I left it alone this time.”

“Hopefully I will have decided by next month but if I need more time I’ll take it.” – he added.

Although he was born in the Netherlands, Sergino Dest was eligible to represent the U.S. as his father is an American citizen. He emerged to the spotlight thanks to his breakthrough performances on U-20 World Cup, where he helped United States reach the quarterfinals. This helped him capture the attention of USMNT’s manager Gregg Berhalter, who called up Dost for two friendlies in September.

But, since Dest hasn’t made an appearance for USMNT in an official competitive game, he can still switch his allegiance and be part of Netherland’s international roster.

However, Berhalter hopes that won’t be the case.

“We’ve had a number of conversations with Sergino, and we’re going to leave the content of those conversations private,” – said Berhalter recently. “They were positive talks and we’re going to leave it at that.”

Dest recently managed to break into the Ajax’ starting lineup and delivered some head-turning performances. He made five appearances in Champions League while also having six Eredivisie starts.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
