Ajax’s super talented right back Sergino Dest has finally decided on his international future. Dest, who was eligible to represent the United States and the Netherlands on the international level, announced on Monday that he pledges his allegiance to USMNT.

“Of course, it was a tough decision for me when the Dutch Men’s National Team showed their interest, but I have built up a very good feeling with Team USA over the last couple of years, and I strongly believe in the plans and potential of U.S. Soccer,” – said Dest about his decision. “I am therefore dedicated to making the next 10-15 years a big success and will do my utmost to help the team play for titles.”

Dest played for the U.S. on all youth levels and made two appearances for the senior team. However, since those were friendlies, he still had the opportunity to switch sides and represent the Netherlands as his mother is Dutch.

Netherlands’ head coach Ronald Koeman began taking interest in Dest after the 18-year-old broke into the starting lineup for Ajax this season. Koeman tried to convince the player to represent the country of his birth, and Dest admitted last month that he was having hard trouble making a decision.

Reportedly, both the U.S. and Netherlands started pushing him to make the final decision in recent weeks. USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter even made a trip to Amsterdam to have a meeting with Dest, and this might have sealed the deal.

Sergino Dest made nine appearances in Eredivisie for Ajax this season, contributing with three assists. He was also featured in six Champions League games and one Netherlands Cup game.
