Quarterback AJ McCarron hasn’t made much of an impact during his time in NFL, but he is lighting up the XFL spring football league. McCarron delivered an impressive performance over the weekend for his St. Louis Battlehawks, completing 28 passes out of 35 attempted and throwing for 420 yards and six touchdowns in a 28-53 win over the Orlando Guardians.

McCarron now has 24 passing TDs in 2023, more than enough to set the new XFL single-season record. The previous record was held by Tommy Maddox, who had 18 touchdowns in 2001 with LA Xtreme.

Unfortunately for Battlehawks, McCarron’s big performance didn’t do much for the team’s playoff chances. The St. Louis team finished the regular season with a 7-3 record but was edged out by the Seattle Sea Dragons, who also went 7-3, on the basis of a tiebreak.

AJ McCarron was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent four years with the Bengals, playing 11 games and being the starter three times. He later embarked on stints with the Buffalo Bills, the Oakland Raiders, the Houston Texans, and the Atlanta Falcons.

McCarron’s most recent appearance in NFL came in 2020 when he appeared in two games with the Texans as a relief. But with the way he played in XFL this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if NFL teams give the 32-year-old player another look.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
