Pitcher Adam Wainwright spent his entire MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals, and it looks like he doesn’t have the intention to change that. Cardinals announced on Thursday that they had signed Wainwright to a one-year deal, keeping the 37-year-old in St. Louis through 2019.

Wainwright will play his 15th season in the majors next year, which will see him getting tied with Bob Forsch on the third place when it comes to most season played in Cardinals’ uniform by a pitcher.

Adam represents everything we think of when asked to describe a winning player, and a winning teammate,” – said Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. in a statement. “His value to our team stretches far beyond the box score, and he showed by season’s end that he is still ready and able to compete.

Adam Wainwright finished the 2018 season 2-4, with a 4.46 ERA. He managed to make only eight starts dealing with several injuries, but it is expected that he will be fully fit for the next season.

Adam has proven, when healthy, that he still has the ability and the drive to contribute at the highest level,” – Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak added. “We saw it in spring training, and again late in the season, that once he had overcome his ailments, he was prepared to give us a winning effort every time he took the mound. There is risk, but it is shared, and this deal gives us added depth as we look to 2019.

During his time with St. Louis Cardinals, Adam Wainwright managed to win the World Series in 2006, while being named an All-Star three times. He also won two Gold Glove Awards and one Silver Slugger Award.

Wainwright’s MLB career stats include 148–85 record, 3.32 ERA and 1,623 strikeouts.
