The Las Vegas Aces’ superstar A’ja Wilson added another remarkable achievement to her already-loaded resume. Wilson delivered a 27-point effort in an 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever, getting her 2024 season total to 956 and setting a new WNBA record.
The previous single-season scoring record was held by Seattle Storm’s Jewell Loyd, who finished the 2023 campaign with 939 points.
Wilson officially broke Loyd’s record by scoring a pull-up jumper late in the second quarter of the Fever game.
“It feels great because now people will stop talking about it,” Wilson said after the game. “Felt like it was just like lingering, lingering, lingering, so I’m glad that we got it done.”
Wilson proceeded to thank her Aces’ teammates for helping her get there.
I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women. They give it their all every single day, and they’re their pure selves, and that’s what I love the most. My teammates, they’re the heartbeat, they keep me going,” she added.
A’ja Wilson has established herself as arguably the best player in the WNBA in recent years. She won the regular season MVP awards in 2020 and 2022 while also helping the Aces win back-to-back titles in the past two seasons.
Wilson is the favorite to win her third MVP award in 2024. She is averaging 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while the Aces sit fourth in the standings with a 23-13 record.
