Real Betis and U.S. international midfielder Johnny Cardoso is reportedly a subject of interest from Seria A giant AC Milan.
According to a recent report by Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Milan is looking for reinforcement in its midfield, which has been ravaged by injuries. They are monitoring a number of players for the January transfer window, with Cardoso emerging as one of their top targets.
The only issue with getting Cardoso, who currently has an estimated transfer value of €25 million, is that Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has a priority option on the player. The priority option, which allows Tottenham to match any offer received for Cardoso, was part of the deal that saw Argentina’s Giovani Lo Celso join Betis towards the end of the summer window.
Cardoso joined Betis in January of this year from Brazil’s Internacional. Since then, he played 23 matches for Betis, scoring once and providing two assists.
Johnny Cardoso was born in New Jersey to Brazilian parents and moved to Brazil when he was three years old. Still, he decided to represent the United States men’s national team at the international level. Cardoso made his senior debut for USMNT in 2020 and has since made 17 appearances.
