NFL issued a four games suspension to San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver Victor Bolden Jr. after the player violated the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Bolden Jr. will be able to return to team’s active roster after Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers scheduled for August 31st.

Victor Bolden Jr. issued a statement following the suspension, saying that he used an unspecified supplement without knowing that it was on the NFL’s list of banned substances.

As a professional athlete, I take full responsibility for not verifying the ingredients of the supplement,” – said Bolden in a statement. “In the future, I will be much better educated when choosing what to put in my body. It hurts to know that I will not be on the field with my team for the first four games of the season.

Despite being unable to play at the start of the regular season, the 23-year-old will be allowed to practice with the team and participate in the 49ers’ preseason games.

Professional athletes must be meticulous in their supplement choices,“- said 46ers’ general manager John Lynch. “We know Victor is disappointed, but we hope this is a reminder to all our players how important it is to make educated decisions on what to put in their bodies.

San Francisco 49ers signed Victor Bolden Jr. as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He was featured in nine games of the regular season but saw most of his playing time as a returner. He had a total of 19 kick returns averaging almost 21 yards per return.
