The San Francisco 49ers are not as eager to move on from quarterback Trey Lance as the recent rumors indicated. That is at least according to the team’s general manager John Lynch.

Speaking about Lance during a press conference on Tuesday, Lynch said that he received inquiries about the 2021’s third overall pick but that the 49ers are not actively trying to move him.

“I think there’s a lot of smoke, really, and that it hasn’t been extremely active,” Lynch said. “And it’s not like we’ve put it out there that, hey, we’re taking offers for Trey, call 1-800. It’s not been the process. People’s job in this is to ask questions. Has that happened on a couple of occasions? Sure. But it hasn’t been that substantive.”

Lynch added that he expects Lance to be on the team for the 2023 season and that the 49ers remain excited about his abilities.

“I expect Trey to be here, and we’re excited about Trey’s ability to compete and what he can do for our franchise just as we were when we drafted Trey,” he explained.

Despite the 49ers envisioning Trey Lance as the future of the franchise when they drafted him, the North Dakota State product failed to live up to the expectations so far. He spent most of his rookie season as a backup, while injuries limited him to just two games in 2022. What’s more concerning is that Lance also didn’t show much when he was on the field, having completed 54.9% of his throws as a pro.

If San Francisco doesn’t trade Lance, he is expected to compete with Brock Purdy for the starting spot in training camp. Purdy is considered the favorite to get the job despite the fact that he’s coming off a shoulder injury.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
