Defensive end Dion Jordan, who was the third overall pick in 2013, is getting a chance to resurrect his career with a legendary organization. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jordan passed his physical with NFC Champions the San Francisco 49ers and is expected to sign a deal in the coming days.

Jordan featured for Raiders in 2019, where he put up a surprisingly solid stretch of seven games in which he had 2.0 sacks, five tackles, and 13 QB pressures. This made him an interesting candidate for multiple teams this offseason, but it looks like 49ers moved the fastest.

Despite having a fear-inducing pass rush, the 49ers lacked depth on the position and were looking for a speed-rush. Jordan fits the bill and is expected to have a rotational role behind Dee Ford. However, if he proves himself, there is definitely room for the 30-year-old defensive end to play more meaningful snaps in 2020.

The 49ers was reportedly also considering free agent DE Ezekiel Ansah but decided not to sign him after he went through his physical. Ansah previously played with the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions and has a Pro Bowl selection next to his name.

Dion Jordan started his career with the Miami Dolphins, where he was expected to be the franchise’s pass rusher of the future. However, things didn’t go well for Jordan in Miami as a number of suspensions for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy limited him to only 26 games with one start in four years.

In 2017, Jordan tried to make a comeback with Seahawks and was off to a great start, racking up 4.0 sacks in the first five games. However, further suspensions and injuries plagued his time in Seattle as well, and he left the organization following the expiration of his contract.
