San Francisco 49ers’ star running back Christian McCaffrey will grace the cover of the latest edition of the popular video game series Madden NFL.
McCaffrey had his arguably best year as a pro in 2023, rushing for a career-high 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns while also adding 67 catches for 594 yards and seven TDs. He was honored with the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award at the end of the season.
McCaffrey will become the first non-quarterback to appear on the cover of Madden NFL since wider receiver Antonio Brown, who was the cover athlete for Madden NFL 19. This doesn’t include the Madden NFL 23, which featured late legendary football head coach John Madden.
Additionally, McCaffrey will be the first running back to be on the cover of Madden NFL since Madden NFL 25, which came out in 2013 and featured Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson as cover athletes. He will also be the first San Francisco 49ers to receive the honor.
“To be on the cover of Madden NFL is a career achievement and an honor I share with all of my teammates, coaches, and 49er faithful who have helped make it possible,” McCaffrey said in a statement. “I’m pumped to get back on the field this year to give Madden players more reasons to keep scoring touchdowns with me in ‘Madden NFL 25.’”
Madden NFL 25 will be officially released on August 16 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
