San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is set to undergo surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the NFL Network reported. This comes after Purdy spent a week and a half exploring every possible option for recovery.

Having torn his ulnar collateral ligament on January 29, Purdy made sure to seek multiple doctors’ opinions on his injury and best recovery options while also waiting for the swelling to go down before making a final decision. Ultimately, he decided to undergo surgery on February 22 with an expected recovery time of six months.

The 49ers’ general manager John Lynch expressed his agreement with Purdy’s treatment choice during the team’s end-of-season news conference.

“The positive bit of news is that it seems to be consistent that the right approach is that one that takes about that six-month point,” Lynch stated. “Now everybody will also say you never know until you get in there. Every surgeon will tell you that on every surgery. You always like getting in to see exactly … They’re continuing to work through that process, but we seem encouraged by the prognosis that that’s kind of where it’s at.”
