David Freese, the Cardinals hometown hero of the 2011 World Series has decided to call it a career after 11 seasons. Freese was drafted by the Padres in 2006 and was traded to the Cardinals in exchange for Jim Edmonds a year later.

He debuted in 2009 in front of family and friends and cemented his legacy in St. Louis 2 years later. After injuries cut his 2011 season short, he put up a tremendous October including the game tying triple in Game 6 of the World Series while down to his last strike. Then, 2 innings later, he hit a walk-off home run that sent the Series to Game 7 and a St. Louis win.

His heroics made him the World Series MVP after he took home the NLCS MVP award as well. Freese is one of only 7 players to win both the LCS and World Series MVP in the same season.

“We will see you tomorrow night!” the famous call made by Joe Buck echoing his fathers call from Game 6 of the 1991 Series, will forever give baseball fans shivers, and is etched as one of the greatest World Series games ever played.

After playing 2 more seasons in St. Louis, he was traded to the Angels. After that, he played 3 seasons for the Pirates before finishing up his career with the Dodgers. Freese appeared in 3 World Series and holds the record for the most total bases in a single postseason (50) in that legendary 2011 October.

Shmuel grew up in Pittsburgh during the rough times of the Pirate's streak of 20 losing seasons. In between baseball, football, and going to school, his passion is finding the most interesting weekend hikes and getaways.
